Skylight Filters. They Do What?

Hoya Skylight Filter

For a moment, pretend you are a beginning photographer and have just entered your local camera store. You start browsing over the different filters and examine the example images on each one that shows how using each filter will alter the look of your pictures. Eventually you set your focus on a Hoya skylight filter.

Just by looking at the with/without images on the packaging, what would you assume that this filter does?

The best that I've been able to come up with in the eight years since I purchased this filter, is that the it reduces the amount of gravitational pull around your model ever so slightly. The reduction in gravity reduces the weight of her big 1980s earrings just enough that she can be confident enough to let go of them without the fear of them tearing her ear lobes off. With the fear of ear injury set aside, she can properly focus her attention on dissaprovingly staring at the people whom she thinks she is superior to.
