Start safe and slowly push your boundries. I expect it will take a few more years before I stop being skittish at all, but I'm already creating the most satisfying images I've ever created in my life by pushing myself out of my comfort zone.

Well Steve, I used to be a chicken too. Getting past that is the most challenging part of street photography, and I find it the most rewarding. I'm not much of a street shooter. I'd like to be, but I'm chicken. Keep it up.

You "harshed her mellow," or something like that.
I'm not much of a street shooter. On two very memorable occasions, I've had people become openly angry at me for photographing them. When it comes down to it, I'm pretty cowardly.Photographers tend to be data hoarders. Street photographers, specifically, seem to be concerned with hoarding records of events that give us clues about reality. In general, gathering data of that nature is directly at odds with privacy. When it comes down to it, this is pretty rude. People don't usually experience their most intimate moments to be recorded. I think that awareness of this is often overridden by a kind of geeky desire to hoard for street photographers. So, being aware of the problem, how do I resolve it? Well, I won't pretend that I do street photography very often, but I think that when I do I have a good trick -- I'm just not a very nice person.Jason

I have to say, it's pretty terrifying when someone gets upset for taking their photo.
