He was yelling "hey! hey! hey you!" as he approached from behind. I turned around and asked what the problem was. He told me it was against the law to photograph strangers on the street. I said bullshit and a few other expletives and walked away. That was the end of it.Another time I was photographing some ConEd workers in Queens. When they saw me, everyone in the group immediately put their helmets and safety vest on. They didn't say anything to me but I could sense I should leave, so I did.

I was followed about a block up Broadway by someone I had taken a picture of. Some construction guy came up and asking us what were were doing. After telling him it was for an assignment, he was like "Oh. OK. I'm just using workers who aren't OSHA certified and wanted to make sure you weren't trying to bust me." Real smart guy. We should have asked for apayment to keep quiet.

What I find fascinating are people who don't want a picture of them being taken because they don't want some little secret of theirs to be exposed, but then go right ahead and tell you what it is.

We were shooting some video for a short film that was for an assignment in college back in about 2000. I had a woman (in Duluth) accuse me of "walking around taking pictures and making fun of us hicks," which is strange because I'm one of "us hicks." A lot of people are really self-conscious and paranoid.

People frequently assume that the sole reason for taking a picture of a building is that you are going to evict the people inside it and tear it down.
