Flower Macros

Something I overheard recently:

“When I took this photo I was about an inch away from the flower.”

Congratulations, you’ve just taken a flower macro. Unless that flower was in the middle of an active mine field, it is still going to be a redundant flower macro that will swiftly be forgotten no matter how close you can get with your kit lens. Unless you are in a war zone, or are photographing a pissed off honey badger, bragging about how close you had to get to the subject will not make it more impressive.

This bit of cynicism is influenced by Dear Photographer, a fun blog I stumbled across today.

Well, sometimes I like taking macros.

    The end.
