Last Day of The Louis S. Loeb House

Mansion built in 1900 on Duluth's Superior street. The next day the demolition was completed to make room for a new mega Walgreens. More info on the mansion can be found at Duluth Daily Photo

I used to live on 1st Street just behind this house (my old place also got destroyed). Such a shame to see the whole block razed for a big box store. Thanks for the photo. I tried to get out there to document some of the destruction, too.

    Hi,
Wow, that's a good photo! I didn't get a chance to get out there and get a "good" bad photo of them tearing it down.

Thanks for the link to my site.

Sonya, how long ago did you live there? Did you have to move because of the razing of the house? What part of town did you move to? What did you like about living on First Street?

I also have this photo of the buildings directly behind the mansion.

I looked at the top floor of one of those two buildings as a possible rental back in 2009. Glad I didn't take it.

My Dad was born in this house. Now it has been torn down. Gradually, more and more beautiful old homes will be razed, unless people interested in historic preservation take action. Get mad, Duluth!! Don't lose your old world charm. That's what draws visitors. Nobody comes to Duluth to visit the walgreen's. This is the tip of the iceberg...

I am doing a story about the people who were affected by the demolished houses to make way for the new Walgreens on Superior Street. If anyone is interested in sharing their experience, they can reply to my post with their phone number or email address and we can proceed from there. Thanks.
